Q: Who is the Volume I CD meant for?
A: This CD is for anybody interested in simple self-defense methods. It is also for current Wing Chun students who wish to have review materials or a look at another instructor's training methods. This CD will also benefit marital arts students of other styles who would like a quick view of Wing Chun methods & principles.

Q. Who is the Volume III CD meant for?
A: Students who have performed Chi Sao already will benefit the most from that additional sparring techniques demonstrated on the CD. However, observant students of all levels can watch and apply the techniques with practice. There is no magic to the movements, only practice.

Q: Why should I buy this CD?
A: This CD trains you step-by-step in learning the first form in Wing Chun kung fu.

Q: What good does learning this style do for me?
A: The form contains simple & easy to use self-defense techniques that don't take a lot of time to learn or remember. Reactions become almost reflexive.

Q: What benefit does Wing Chun have for me over other martial arts?
A: Wing Chun was developed to be quick & simple to learn, & not require tremendous physical conditioning. You can practice it in a small area. It is ideal for smaller people because many of the techniques have their best effect when you are close to a larger person and are shorter than them.

Q: Don't all other martial arts training tapes teach you self-defense?
A: No. Most videotapes
show you what they do. It is hard to learn from them. Many tapes show you fancy movements & techniques. It may look cool but it's hard for you repeat their movements without intense practice and observation. Many tapes are for the martial art enthusiast who is expected to know the basics to the style already.

This CD trains you. The difference is this program has coaching notations for the complete beginner to get the details right so bad habits do not develop. The purpose of every movement is explained for you to understand & remember better. Practical self-defense applications are shown to provide a correlation to the form & its intended use.

Q: What is the difference between between a CD & a videotape in learning?
A: You can stop & start the CD whenever you like & pick up exactly where you left off. You can pick the exact spot you want to review & practice instantly. There is no fast forwarding to an inaccurate tape count number that might change from machine to machine. You can review the video on a CD without worrying your copy might wear out. The CD provides additional information you can read at the same time video is playing. You can backup the CD video a half second at a time.

Technical Questions:

If your technical questions are not answered below, please send a message to help@xumedia.com

1. Why is there a delay in the response time of the controls?
2. The videos are dark (or light).
3. I have to scroll left & right to see everything on the page.
4. The colors on the screen are all splotchy & mottled.
5. There are no pictures on the screen. The videos are blank when I play them.
6. There are no VCR controls when I press the up arrow to start the video clips.

7. The print button does not print the video frame in Volume III.

Q: Why is there a delay in the response time of the controls?
A: Everything the program does is loaded from the CD. Almost all other computer programs run from the hard disk. The program is written this way to save space on your hard drive.

The CD is the slowest device on your computer. If you are waiting a very long time, look at the CD run light to make sure the CD is actually looking for something. Press the button or do the action again to get a response.

If you have a 4x CD or slower there might be a slight pause a second after the video clip starts. You can replay the clip to get smoother playback since the clip will have been loaded into memory & is not read from the CD again.

Q: The videos are dark (or light).
A: Monitor brightness is one of the biggest variables from machine to machine. Check to see that your monitor's brightness & contrast are average. Select middle positions on your monitor's picture controls.

Included on the CD in the HELP directory is a large file of greyscale samples that run from black to white. The top right square should faintly visible. Adjust your monitor's brightness so that it is.

Q: I have to scroll left & right to see everything on the page.
A: Your monitor is not set for 800x600 resolution. Right click somewhere on an unoccupied space on your desktop to get the display properties menu. Select Properties, then settings, then move the slider control on desktop area over to 800x600. Also be sure the color palette is set to High Color (16 bit). You might be required to reboot.

If you don't have these options, you might be lacking windows drivers or the capabilities of your monitor/video card combination is insufficient to correctly run the CD. Check your video card and monitor documentation for information regarding their installation.

Q: The colors on the screen are all splotchy & mottled.
A: See the preceding question. Be sure your display color palette is set to Hi Color.

Q: There are no pictures on the screen. The videos are blank when I play them.
A: If you have multiple CD-ROM drives, run the CD in another drive. The program plays from the default drive as seen by windows which might might not be the one your are currently using.

Q: There are no VCR controls when I press the up arrow to start the video clips.
A: The video clips will start, but be sure to either press the "P" key or single click on the video clip thumbnail to launch the VCR interface. If the video is playing, click once on the video thumbnail to launch the VCR.

Q: The print button does not print the video frame in Volume III.
A: The page will print with the displayed text but not the video frame due to Windows' native MCI controls interfering with the print commands.
